If this wasn’t a song it would be a feather floating gently in a breeze, the kind of feather that the camera follows at the beginning of a film about a little village. As the moving shot follows the feather in its slow descent, the life of the village, its characters lazily emerging as if from sleep, unfolds, and the opening shot is a kind of synopsis; a romantic portrait of what is to come. I have not seen this film, but this song reminds me of a word that Kaifi Azmi’s poems taught me - “itminaan” (langour would be an injustice, and leisure, overkill). Rafisaab’s voice lazily traces the contours of a coy, sensual romance.
I think this is how love should be.
